Check List on What You Need to Take to NYSC Camp

Guess you need to go for shopping before leaving for camp, so i have put together some list of things that you need to get together before you get to the camp ground.

Thank me later *winks*
I titled this document your check list before embarking on the journey to serve your fathers land.....

Here are some must haves before stepping out of the comfort of your home to the much anticipated journey.......
  1. White Shorts - It will definitely be given to you when you get to the camp ground but since its part of your daily attire all through your stay in the camp, i would advice you get 2 or 3 extra pairs. Guess you don't wanna rely on their oversize shorts.
  2. White Socks - At least 2 pairs, so that you won't be doing wash and wear during your stay in the orientation camp. Though you would be given some pairs during your registration process in camp.
  3. White T-shirts - At least 2. You will also be given during your registration process, though it might be oversize sometimes.
  4.  White Tennis Shoe - At least a pair. One will be given to you in camp.
  5. NYSC Khaki - If you can, it advisable you get a tailor to prepare one for you before going to camp or better still you can wait until you get to the camp and get one prepared for you in their Mammy market. Definitely one will be given to you in camp but most times its either too big or too small, so you have to go through the stress of looking fot who to trade by barter with. The problem of time wasting and double coincidence of want, might arise in this kind of situation.
  6. Waist Pouch /Bag - This is where you put all your valuables like mobile phone, phone charger, ID card, money e.t.c. During your 3-4 weeks stay in the camp, your waist pouch is going to be your bestie because you go practically everywhere with it.
  7. Mosquito Treated Net - You might want to spread it out for sometime at least 2-3days before going to camp because of the chemicals in it, if not be ready for itching and rashes.
  8. Insecticides - Get a trusted insecticide because they are so many ineffective products in the market nowadays.
  9. Insect Repellant - Spray or cream, it can be gotten from a good pharmacy or cosmetics shop. It chases mosquitoes and other insects away from you.
  10. Disinfectant - For your bathing water. e.g Dettol. Its advisable you get as much quantity as possible.
  11. Drugs - There is a possibility that you might contact diarrhoea from the camp food or from that of mammy market. Also you might develop headache from their rigorous parades and exercises. So i advise you get drugs for diarrhoea and headache just in case, you never know who you might save from running stomach with the drugs.
  12. Deodorant, BodySpray and Perfume - You will surely perspire as a result of the rigorous camp activities, so it advisable you get a good deodorant and stay away from those that contains alcohol. Also you don't have to use too much mixtures of perfume if not you will just attract those flying insects to yourself.
  13. Soap Dish - Where you store your body sponge, bathing soap and other personal effects as regards to bathing.
  14. Towels - Even if you are planning on taking your beautiful big towel with you I would advise you still get those smaller ones that you can easily wash immediately after bathing everyday and spread it on your bunk inside your hostel because your big towel might get stolen when you spread it to dry outside after washing it.
  15. Bathroom Slipper - I know you're not planning on wearing your parade boot or your beautiful shoes or sandals to the bathroom when you want to bath. Try not to get those ones that are slippery when they come in contact with water.
  16. Pillow and Pillowcase - Since you are embarking on a journey to a place you've never been to before, I guess pillow is a luxury you can do without during your stay in the camp because you don't want to look like a novice that is going to the university for the first time with almost all the property he/she owns back home. If you're lucky you can get a pillow from those camp wardens, so i suggest you take a pillowcase with you just in case.
  17. Bedspread and Blanket - Try to avoid white ones because so many persons will have access to your bed and you don't want your bedspread to look blackened after 1-2days. Also get a blanket that you can use to wrap your bed before using your bedspread on it because you don't know what those bed have been through and I'm sure you won't like to be beaten by bedbugs in the middle of your beautiful sleep. Get a not too thick cover cloth because of the temperature in the rooms as a result of overpopulation.
  18. Bucket - You can easily purchase one in camp, so you don't have to carry your favorite bucket all the way from home.
  19. Food Flasks, Cup and Cutlery - Your spoon(s), cup, plate(s), food flakes e.t.c are some personal effects that you need to keep safe and clean in order not to give room for contamination.
  20. Beverages/Provisions - Surely you won't always be in the mood to eat their camp food, so you can easily take a cup of tea with biscuits or a bowl of cereals(Corn flakes). Better still you can prepare a bowl of "Cassa Flakes and Floating Peanut i.e Soaking garri and groundnut - guess you haven't heard of that before. *Lol*
  21. Torch Light - Since we aren't sure of regular power supply even in our homes, its not a different story in camp. So its advisable you get a torch light that make use of a battery. You can also get a simple rechargeable type as a backup plan.
  22. Passport Photograph - At least 12 copies. There are photographers in the mammy market but you can be sure that their prices will be more expensive.
  23. Your Important Documents - These includes your Call-Up Letter, Statement of Result/Success Letter, School ID Card e.t.c. You are advised to take at least 12copies of all your important documents with you to camp.
  24. Mufti Wears - Since you are allowed to wear the clothes you brought with you only on sundays, you can carry three sets of clothes and shoes/sandals for going to church and other religious activities. You can also carry extra clothes if you have plans to contest for any of the beauty pageants or competition.
  25. Money - Since most camp grounds don't have ATM Machines, it is advisable you take as much money as you think you need to camp, at least 15k. Note that you will be given your first federal government allowance in camp.
  26. Keys, Chain and Padlock - You might be surprise with this item but it is very important. Since you aren't inside your hostel 24/7, you are advised to take a very good key and padlock with you to safe guard your bags while you are away and also chains to attach your bags to your bunk. If not your bags might develop legs before you come back from parade ground.

Other necessities includes black undies for ladies(surely nobody is interested in seeing the multicolored undies you intend showcasing) and also try to make an hairstyle that suits you and one that you can be comfortable on.
The list is endless, if you think i missed anything out you can add it in the comments space.

I wish you a stress-free preparation for your NYSC camp.
